Home to baseball legends Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Derek Jeter, Lou Gerig, not to mention Jackie Robinson, Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth, it's safe to say the New York Yankees have had some of the greatest players of all time on their roster, and are probably the most well known baseball team in the world.

Based in the New York City borough the Bronx, the Yankees are one of only two major league clubs in NYC, the other being the New York Mets (part of the National League). They team was founded in 1903 after the franchise rights to the Baltimore Orioles (of the time) and were originally called the New York Highlanders. They were officially renamed the New York Yankees in 1913, and have never looked back.

They've won 27 World Series championships, and overall more titles than any other franchise, and that's across all four major American League professional sports leagues.
